Whitechapel Porter – an ASDA bottled Ale

Posted by: Tony In: Bottles

Having been a bit grumpy at work this week I was glad to see the back of it. So getting home nice and early and popping the cap on an ale was definitely what the doctor ordered. And the ale left in the fridge was ‘ASDA’s Whitechapel Porter’.

I have to say I wasn’t optimistic about this one as – let’s face it – ASDA is ASDA if you know what I mean… But this was a real surprise.

Bottle notes say this is a “… dark ruby traditional porter ale combining an underlying roasted malt flavour with spicy hop notes. A warm satisfying strong ale.”

I’m not sure about the spicy, but other than that it was a really good pint (well, half-litre). It went down a treat and didn’t leave a nasty aftertaste in my mouth unlike a few of the ales I have tried recently.

The ale is 5.2% but you wouldn’t know it. I reckon I could neck loads of these. You certainly don’t feel like you are drinking a 5% ale

Thumbs up for ASDA on this one. It isn’t a top 5 ale – but it is certainly very drinkable. I might just have another!
