Fullers Golden Pride – Bottled

Posted by: Tony In: Bottles

Hot off the back of a disappointing Summer Lightning, I took comfort in the fact that I had lots more ale in the fridge.
Fullers Golden Pride was my next bottle of choice – and what an improvement! Very tasty – very aley (not a word I know – but I do make them up) – [...]

Summer Lightning – an award winning ale?

Posted by: Tony In: Bottles

Summer Lightning is an award winning ale from the ‘Hop Back Brewery’. Apparently this ale – Summer Lightning – has won 70 awards.. mainly from CAMRA
I can’t see the appeal. After all the other bottles I have drunk over the last two weeks this one is definitely not one I have enjoyed.
It didn’t leave me [...]

Fullers HoneyDew is one of those ales you would probably avoid because of its name. I only bought it because I bought every single ale that they sold on Ocado.
This was a very light – and very nice ale. And thank god it didn’t taste of honey. That would have sucked.
I’m really surprised that this [...]

Old Peculiar – is it a peculiar bottle?

Posted by: Tony In: Bottles

Old Peculiar had me anxious It was my last bottle before going to bed and the name was putting me off.
Off came the cap – poured it in the glass -and boy was it a dark beer -not Guinness dark – but not far off. Was this a stout I was about to drink?
This was [...]

Bottled Tanglefoot

Posted by: Tony In: Bottles

Now this is nice… Another of the Badger Premium Ales. This one, as they say, is Deceptively Drinkable. I’m not so sure about the deceptive, but definitely drinkable – very drinkable.
This bottled ale comes in at 5% – but you wouldn’t know it. It is very light and crisp.
Picking my favourite bottled ale is getting [...]

Ocado – the place to buy ale

Posted by: Tony In: Bottles| General

Bottled ale is great if you can find it, so hats off to all the major supermarkets – they do a very good selections: Morrisons are good for price but their range is limited. If you really want to get some ale, try Ocado – the online grocery company. Research into bottled ale was made [...]

Badger Golden Glory – lust for glorious?

Posted by: Tony In: Bottles

Golden Glory is bordering on a summer ale for me.. it is a bit floral.. in fact it is very floral. It smells like a bowl of fruit.
I thought it had a real citrusy and melony (are they words – they are now !) tang to it.. then I checked the bottle and apparently it [...]

Not a Black Sheep amongst the Ales

Posted by: Tony In: Bottles

I was dubious about bottled ale but have been very impressed with the bigger brewery’s bottled offerings. Black Sheep Ale is no exception. A really good ale from the bottle. I had it very cold and – at 4.4% it was a very tasty and enjoyable 5 minutes of supping. Well maybe 6 minutes.
If I [...]

Bottled Adnams Broadside

Posted by: Tony In: Bottles

Broadside is a fine pint. Brad and I have had it in a number of pubs and despite it’s high strength – i.e 4.7% – it is really good. So, what about the bottled variety?
Bottled Broadside is really strong. 6.3%. And it tastes really strong too.. really nice though. It was a bit too cold [...]

Ale in Ireland?

Posted by: Tony In: General

A recent trip to Dublin in aid of finding new ales and pubs for Alefinder saw me spend two days searching for Ale and failing miserably.
Seems that if you go to Dublin you have two choices – Guinness or go somewhere else.. They did also have Smithwicks but that really isn’t a choice – it [...]
