Greene King Abbot Ale – reliably excellent

Green King Abbot Ale

If you want a bottle of ale that will not let you down, then Greene King Abbot Ale is the ale to go for.

If I ever go to a pub and am unsure about the other pumps, I will always plump for Abbot. I’ve never had a bad one. And the bottled stuff is the same. And I mean the same.

There is often a difference between your cask ale and your bottled ale. The bottle might even come in stronger. But Abbot is Abbot – however you have it. 5.0% in the keg, 5.0% in the bottle.

Greene King say “…Abbot Ale is brewed to a unique recipe, which makes it the full flavoured, smooth and ripe mature beer that is is today. This irresistible beer has masses of fruit characters, a malty richness and a superb hop balance making it an exceptional drink.”

They go on to say “…It is brewed with pale crystal and amber malts which give it its attractive colour and rich malty taste”. That’ll explain why it is one of so few ales to come in a clear bottle! It looks great before you even open it!

As Brad has said elsewhere, this ale just ticks all the boxes. It is does not stand out as being excessively citrusy or hoppy or malty. It is so full of flavour and is just (hate to say it) nice!

I can’t fault Abbot Ale at all and I am confident that it will remain in my top 5 for quite some time. There isn’t much out there that I would rather drink.
